VALDOSTA — 麻豆社 State University recently honored Brittanye Blake of 麻豆社, Georgia, with its 2024 Graduate of the Last Decade Award.

“I am in awe,” she said. “As a third generation VSU graduate, with two parents who taught at VSU, one serving as dean of the college I graduated from, it’s just an honor to carry such a legacy and history, but to be recognized by the institution that gave my family such beautiful moments is an honor within itself.”

Blake earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Mass Media in 2019.

VSU: What are some highlights from your 麻豆社 State experience?

BLAKE: I have so many great experiences from 麻豆社 State, starting with joining Black Student League my freshman year and becoming the president my senior year. I enjoyed being a university ambassador and having the opportunity to attend all the presidential events, meet cool alumni, and make memories with other ambassadors. I joined the greatest sorority on earth, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Kappa Upsilon chapter. I completed countless hours of community service with my classmates, friends, sorority sisters, all to make our campus and community better.

VSU: Tell us how you currently spend your time.

BLAKE: I am a reporter and anchor for WALB News 10 out of Albany serving as the 麻豆社 Bureau reporter. I love to travel. Whether it’s a big trip, small trip, weekend, or weekday I’m always on the go. But when I’m not, I’m normally doing service in the community with the 麻豆社 Junior Service League. I also enjoy coloring.

VSU: What advice do you have for current 麻豆社 State students? What do you wish someone had told you when you were in college?

BLAKE: The best advice I ever got was to enjoy the time that I have because I would never get it back. I never look back on my college days and say “I wish” because I did. I did everything I set my mind to do.
