VALDOSTA — Kyle Thomas Hawthorne of Cairo, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2024 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the College of the Arts at 麻豆社 State University.
The President’s Award for Academic Excellence is presented to a high-performing graduating student in each of VSU’s six colleges — Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, College of the Arts, James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, College of Science and Mathematics, and College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Hawthorne will be recognized during VSU’s 238th Commencement at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, on the Main Campus Front Lawn. He will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Mass Media and a Certificate in Sports Broadcasting.
“This is a prestigious accomplishment that I am most definitely grateful for,” he said. “As I look back at my time at VSU, it has truly been some of the best years of my life, and to end my college career on such a high note is more than I could’ve ever asked for. I would like to thank all my professors for investing in my success and helping me along the way. I would also like to thank my boss at Blazer Sports Media, Jamie Abbott, for helping me sharpen my sports broadcast production skills like no other.”
As a student at VSU Hawthorne was a member of the Beta Theta chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, where he served as vice president then president. He worked as a sports broadcast production assistant with Blazer Sports Media.
Because of his commitment to academic, creative, and leadership excellence, Hawthorne was a Georgia HOPE Scholar and a Dean’s List honoree throughout his entire VSU experience.
After graduation Hawthorne plans to move to Jacksonville, Florida, and pursue a career in sports broadcast production.
“A long-term career goal of mine is to aid in the broadcast production of various different sports throughout each year, interchanging between them all depending upon what time of year it is,” he said.
His supportive family includes Gary Hawthorne (father), Teresa Hawthorne (mother), Montana Stokes (girlfriend), and Bandit (dog).
