PAL Session Expectations
PAL facilitators at the ASC are trained to be coaches, not replacements for your professors. They will ask that you do the "workout," and they will suggest ways to make your "workout" more effective, and they will encourage your efforts. They will focus on peer to peer learning in the study sessions and use collaborative learning techniques and small gropu activities to engage all the studnets. They will guide the study session to keep it on task and share materials and resources as appropriate. They cannot make you learn; that's your responsibility. It's also your responsibility to come to a facilitator session well-prepared. So, In light of these facilitators' training, expect the following:
- Expect to do most of the talking/doing with the other students in the session.
- Expect to have gone to class, completed any appropriate assisgnments and readings and come to the session prepared to engage with the facilitator and other students.
- Expect to be actively involved in the session and for the PAL to ask you questions and/or have you engage in activities.
- Expect that the PAL will model ways of learning to you during the session but will not provide easy answers or do your homework.
- Expect to do all of your own work, and understand that ultimately your grade is your responsibility.
- Expect to be listened to and respected and encouraged.
- Expect the PAL to stay on the task at hand.
