Letter from the Department Head
The Department of Biology offers an engaging, flexible undergraduate curriculum designed to serve students with varying interests, including but not limited to, botany, ecology, conservation, physiology, genetics, mammalogy, microbiology, and molecular and cell biology. The biology degree is also excellent preparation for students interested in post-graduate study in medicine, health professions, research, and graduate programs,
The undergraduate curriculum engages students in hands-on learning through laboratories and opportunities to work with faculty on their research and scholarly interests. The first-year seminar introduces you to the biology program, provides career advising and focuses on college skills to help you be successful. The senior seminar capstone is an opportunity to synthesize what you have learned.
The Department offers two graduate programs, a thesis based masters degree and a non-thesis masters option. They prepare you for work in research and industry, and additional graduate study in professional and doctoral programs.
Our faculty are leaders in their fields, exceptional teachers, scholars, and recipients of university awards for excellence. I invite you to explore their webpages where you will find their educational background, their scholarly and professional interests, and courses they regularly teach. Everything we do focuses on the success of our students by providing you with a rich educational experience and opportunity to gain experience and succeed.
